Vignesh Puthur, a 24-year-old left-arm spinner from Malappuram, Kerala, made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings.

On debut, Puthur impressed by dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda in quick succession.

Puthur, the son of an autorickshaw driver and a homemaker, started his cricketing journey as a medium pacer.

His transition to spin bowling was inspired by Kerala cricketer Mohammed Sherif, who advised him to try leg spin.

He has represented Kerala in U-14 and U-19 cricket and currently plays for Alleppey Ripples in the Kerala Cricket League.

Mumbai Indians signed Puthur at his base price of ₹30 lakh after spotting him in the local circuit and TNPL.

Earlier this year, he was sent to South Africa as a net bowler for MI Cape Town in the SA20 league.

Despite Puthur’s strong debut, Chennai Super Kings won the match with Ravindra hitting the winning six and Noor Ahmad taking 4 wickets for 18 runs.
